Millions dead for Gain

In a previous blog, I mentioned the 125 million humans killed and allowed to die from 1880 to 1920 from "modern colonialism". I was just reading the Peoples History of the United States by Zinn--something all of y0u should read. He points out that the population of 75 million native Americans disappeared as result of the European invasion. Most historians agree that 50 million Africans were ripped out of Africa in the international slave trade. 12 to 15 million of these souls were "shipped' to America. They lay down in "boxes" with their heads and feet in irons. One out of three died in the transit(5 million if your math skills are limited) Many went literally "crazy" from the trip. In Beloved by Toni Morrison, the character Halle loses his mind when at the end of the torturous life goes insane. Many who have read this book write a lot about he nature of the "ghost" daughter, or the state of literary quality of the book. Within its pages, though, is a description of an incident which I have heard little about, and it runs past so fast, it was hard to catch. During the night of Sethe's escape and torture, one of the Paul's is lynched. But, his body is seen swinging from a tree, having had his feet chopped off and been decapitated. Maybe I am naive, but to some degree that this is the secret bomb in the book. Think about men who cut off a man's feet while he was alive---hung him from a tree---and then chopped his head off. The events are not described in the book. All we hear is Paul D's description of the scene as he runs away.

The point I am making is that the rule of greed has destroyed millions of humans, wiped whole civilisations(ire,The Five Nations in America). There is no doubt that these "tribal" civilizations were MUCH more civilized than the European desire to kill and maim for profit.

I know this may sound like a cliche, but if I asked you to name the number of widows living in Iraq right now, would you know? The answer is over two million. Would you know? Would you care? When Bush was President, he stopped counseling for abortions throughout the world. It is estimated that the death toll in Africa alone topped 15,000 women who died from medical care for pregnancy. There was NO help to abort these fetuses and NO medical care to deliver the babies. They remained in the bodies of the women and killed them. If you actually believe that this kind of mass killings are things of the past, then you simply do not know America in the past or present. If you think of yourself as a progressive or liberal, then I will post a bibliography in my next post, but I will suggest one book now, HITLER'S WILLING EXECUTIONERS. The professor form Harvard who wrote this book, was prevented from getting an endowed professor's chair because `the powers the make those decisions decided that the book was too controversial for a Harvard professor. They may not burn books today, but they will surely punish those who stand up for the truth.
